Think Tank Thuto is planning child centered learning environments where the explicit assumption of connectedness, wholeness and being fully human – a holistic perspective – will be taught. If one adopts a holistic view of the planet, life on Earth - the global village – there is connectedness to all life, honouring diversity in Unity, an experience of being, belonging and caring for all.
Community is an integral aspect in holistic education. As relationships and learning about relationships are keys to understanding ourselves, so the aspects of community is vital in this learning process. Forbes (1996) states, “In holistic education the classroom is often seen as a community which is within the larger community of the school, or which is within the larger community of the village, town, or city, and which is, by extension, within the larger community of humanity.
Think Tank Thuto has created a new community where the parts that constitute the whole are located in 2 different hemispheres and are on the opposite sides of the globe. Therefor there is a need to define and portray the community who has helped and is helping. The global village requires a different interpretation especially when the question is who is responsible for the challenges facing the community?
Our Photography and Video projects were created because Africa is still a country in many people’s mind; and images of HIV/AIDS and flies on children’s faces are pervasive throughout mainstream Western Media. Botswana, in contrast to most other neighboring states is a gem. Video and Photography are ideal mediums to convey a contemporary and modern portrait. The official site, www.thinktankthuto.org, was designed to help contribute and help define the modern cultural identity for today’s Botswana. Additionally it is at the early stages of defining the community who is helping TTT build the Anglican International Schools of Botswana, Africa.
